For most families, the biggest barrier to going solar is the upfront cost. The good news: you don’t have to pay it all at once. Solar financing and installment plans let you spread the cost — and with today’s electricity tariffs, the monthly payment can be less than the bill you’re already paying. Here’s how it works in 2026.
How solar financing works
Instead of paying the full system price upfront, you take a solar loan or lease from a bank and repay it in monthly installments (EMIs). Under the State Bank’s Refinance Scheme for Renewable Energy, eligible solar loans have carried a low markup of around 6% — though once a bank’s allocation is used up, pricing moves to standard KIBOR-linked commercial rates (typically higher). Rates and eligibility change, so confirm the current offer with your bank.
The key insight: EMI vs your bill
Here’s why financing makes sense. With grid tariffs effectively running Rs 45–70 per unit, a well-sized system at a low SBP-rate EMI often costs less per month than the electricity bill it replaces — so many customers are cash-positive from month one. Even under the new net billing rules, self-consumption keeps the savings strong. For a sense of system costs, see our 5kW, 10kW & 15kW price guide.
Banks offering solar financing
Several banks run solar financing programs, including both Islamic and conventional options — among them Meezan, Bank Alfalah, Faysal, JS, HBL, Sindh Bank and Al Baraka. Terms, tenures and eligibility vary, so it’s worth comparing a couple before you commit.
What about batteries?
Storage is often the priciest part of a hybrid system. Industry bodies such as the FPCCI have called for a special low-markup (around 3%) financing scheme for solar batteries — so keep an eye out for battery-specific financing that could make hybrid systems even more affordable.
How we help
We size the right system for your usage, give you a clean itemised quote for your bank application, and make sure the expected savings comfortably cover your installment. Explore our solar panel installation service, or get a free quote to see your options.
The smartest way to buy solar in 2026: let the savings pay the installment. If the EMI is less than your bill, going solar costs you nothing extra — and everything after payoff is free.
